Managed Service Network - what is it?

The care of children, teenagers and young adults with cancer in Scotland has undergone reorganisation and all cancer centres will now work together as one service called a Managed Service Network (MSN). This has been done to ensure that the best treatment is available to all patients irrespective of the type of cancer they have and regardless of where they live. Instead of being referred for treatment to your nearest hospital, this new service will plan and deliver your care by involving all of Scotland's cancer centres and hospitals.

This Managed Service Network may require you to undergo treatment in a number of different hospitals if this provides the best care available in Scotland. If Scotland cannot provide the care you need, the MSN will recruit the treatment from elsewhere. This means that Scotland's doctors, nurses and therapists will be working together in a coordinated fashion to bring the best and correct treatment to every single patient at each stage of treatment.
